Latest update from #theninerealms’ project curator

June seems to have sped by and a lot has been going on in relation to The Nine Realms. All the poetry is now in, with over 80 + poems being created over the 9 months. 40 poems have now been selected for the experience itself.  The realm poetry for Alfheim is still being posted out on ArtiPeeps on a weekly basis. With all the poetry from the  ninth realm in it has meant that we could crack on with:

1. The DVD

Over the last month and a half we have had 10 editing sessions with the sound technician at Future Radio.

Putting all the audio, realm music and art together in a multi-media format has taken more time than I anticipated. However, what has been created is unique, and the music fits the poetry perfectly. I have to say that this project feels like it was meant to…

I am delighted to say that our Indiegogo Campaign was a complete success and on the 19th May we met our goal of  £1, 111….and a bit more reaching £1288!  There was a final push and an epic collective effort and we got there!!!  MANY thanks to everyone who backed us and supported us. Here is the last backer’s  wordle, which will be made into  a 1 x 1 metre plaque to be publicly displayed within ‘The Gallery’ in Hanse House in September.

So far we are off to a really great start. We are 53% funded and have £646 of our £1222 goal. A big thank you to all the 19 backers thus far.

Here’s the latest backers’ wordle I created by way of a thank you. A larger version of the  wordle will be publicly displayed within ‘The Gallery’ in Hanse House throughout The Nine Realms event in September.

Day 3

Our Viking Boat:

We are also 4 days into the carving of our Viking Boat. It is starting to take shape, but in the beginning, so Mark tells me, it’s a slow process. Getting the boat prepped for the figurehead is key. Here is a slideshow of the boat’s progress thus far.

There are some great Viking related rewards:

 Vikings Ahoy!

Our Indiedgogo Campaign

The previous month or so has been filled with lots of preparation for the launch of our Indiegogo Campaign to raise funds for the commissioning costs of the 50 cm x 80 cm Carved Viking boat that woodcarver Mark Crowley is going to be LIVE CARVING for us from his studio in Newcastle.

We shall be launching our campaign on Monday 20th April!  I’ve been busy creating  our campaign video, and I am now putting the final touches to our Campaign Page and starting to show it to people. Over Easter I shall create a  special Campaign page for this site. So please do watch out for the launch, and consider supporting us and our boat!

It’s going to be very exciting to see the boat emerge from within the oak wood that Mark has…

Vikings Ahoy! : Here’s The Nine Realms Collaboration Logo

ArtiPeeps

Our logo for our The Nine Realmsproject has finally been designed and completed by illustrator and graphic designerGary Caldwell.

Here it is:

nine realms8

.

The logo is based on the Yggasdril Tree which is central to Norse Mythology and their myths of cosmology. All the nine realms come off the tree. The realms are represented by the different coloured balls within the tree (including the main one). This logo will be used on all our promotional material.

We have decided to call the event in Hanse House in September an ‘experience’ rather than an exhibition. This is for 3 reasons: 1. because of the high levels of participation and interaction there will be with attendees and pupils (at our schools’ day); 2. because we want to move attendees away from merely attending to active participation and 3. because we want to take attendees on a the magical…

A Festive Nine Realms and ArtiPeeps Update (2014)

From ArtiPeeps’ Curator & friend, Nicky Mortlock 🙂

ArtiPeeps

 ArtiPeeps 2014 Overview:

It’s been a significant year for ArtiPeeps, with the success of Transformations our first poetry-art exhibition in Hanse House, Norfolk. Not only did we showcase a broad range of creatives from all over the world and the UK, we confirmed that the ‘making the virtual real’ part of what we do, works. Also, some of us met for the first time having worked together for two years virtually which was also very rewarding.

My strongest  memory though of Transformations is of the schools’ day where pupils engaged with the poetry and art created by the Transformers, inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses. They were fully engaged, valued the interaction with,  and direct access to, the Transformers who came and shared their process. They took part in poetry readings- the whole works! It made me realise how powerful participation and interaction is with the arts particularly when you combine…

Transformations: Art, and Meeting Face-to-Face

Supported with public funds by Arts Council England.

Supported by Norfolk County Council.

Pre-amble

Firstly,  let me share this link to the newspaper article that was written by The Lynn News in response to Transformations. It sums up the whole experience entirely: ‘ArtiPeeps King’s Lynn exhibition ‘rip-roaring success”:

http://goo.gl/4uNuUh

And here’s the Wordle I did of the Evaluation Sheet we had at the exhibition (click to enlarge):

Cloud 17

For me, the most interesting evaluatory word in real terms amidst all of the above is the word ‘Confused’.  This lone word is potentially a real point of growth and development for us. What we presented to a viewing audience was a huge swathe of material that nearly everybody appreciated in someway, but that maybe still needs to be contextualised more for better understanding.  It’s made me ask: do we need more explanatory information?; how can we best guide people around our projects? are we…

A Sense of Place #2: Millfield School Poetry Festival (Year 9, 10, 12)

ArtiPeeps

photo

The Millfield Poetry Festival was an opportunity for our students to express themselves and have fun with words. The theme was “a sense of place”, which our highly creative pupils interpreted in a dazzling variety of ways, from the visual to the abstract, the comical to the philosophical. The English Department was overwhelmed by the inventiveness, daring and candour demonstrated by the young poets. The festival culminated in an evening showcase, in which students read or performed their poems and received prizes from our guest adjudicator, charismatic performance poet/rapper Breis, who finished the evening with his own inspiring material.

What follows is a small selection of some of the poems featured in the festival. I hope you enjoy them.

‘A Sense of Place’: Poems From Millfield School’s 2014 Poetry Festival

From ArtiPeeps

.

Young poets in Years 9, 10 and 12 are writing poems inspired by particular places of importance to them, painting word-pictures of those places and drawing on a rich emotional palette. Here you will find some poems written by pupils in Year 9, the youngest year group in the senior school. The poems are fresh and honest, and show a deft touch and attention to detail. I hope you enjoy them.

James BaddockHead of English, Drama & Media,

.

The river flows beneath the night sky
In spring you see the birds learn how to fly
In summer there is the smell of fresh cut grass
And all the people begin to laugh
The swans and ducks then begin to waddle away
And all the children start to play
Autumn comes around fast
And clearing leaves becomes a task
Winter comes in hard before everyone’s eyes

Today Is a Big Day: ArtiPeeps Update (Transformations)

Big Day’s Update via ArtiPeeps 🙂 #Transformations

ArtiPeeps

“Working in collaboration leads to a rich dialogue yielding unexpected results.” ~Alexander Gorlizki

Today is a big day. It’s the day when the last poems of Transformations are due in, which marks the conclusion of our poetic 15 month online journey  together. The Book 15 poems, however, will continue to go out throughout May, and we will, of course,  all be collectively working towards our September poetry-art exhibition. Our exhibition will project our online collaboration into the real world  and enable us to showcase what we have created collectively.

The poets:  Nat, Becca, James, Bid, Lenka, Karin, John B, John M, Greg, Nell, Sadaf, Adam, Carol and Kate have contributed so much to this project and it moves me greatly. Thank you all so much for your creativity. Once the last poems are in I’ll release the selection for…
